The event opened with welcoming remarks and logistical coordination by\u00a0Dr. Stelios Myriokefalitakis<\/strong>\u00a0from NOA, the Principal Investigator of the project and an overview of the\u00a0REINFORCE project<\/strong>, including its objectives, scientific scope, and key achievements, was presented. The scientific program continued with presentations addressing critical aspects of aerosol\u2013climate interactions and Earth system modeling. In more details,\u00a0Prof. Apostolos Voulgarakis<\/strong>, co-PI from the\u00a0Technical University of Crete (TUC)<\/strong>, presented recent developments in\u00a0wildfire emission schemes within the EC-Earth Earth System Model<\/strong>, followed by\u00a0Ms. Konstantina Paraskevopoulou from the TUC group<\/strong>, who discussed the\u00a0impacts of wildfires on the global atmosphere<\/strong>\u00a0through multi-year simulations using diverse emission datasets. Advances in organic aerosol modeling were presented by\u00a0Dr. Stelios Kakavas<\/strong>\u00a0from the\u00a0Foundation for Research and Technology \u2013 Hellas (FORTH)<\/strong>\u00a0from the group of Prof. Spyros Pandis, focusing on the coupling of a\u00a0volatility-basis set (VBS) organic aerosol module<\/strong>\u00a0into the\u00a0EC-Earth Earth System Model (ESM)<\/strong>. Further contributions included an overview of new\u00a0bioaerosol emission schemes in EC-Earth<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Prof. Maria Kanakidou<\/strong>, co-PI from the\u00a0University of Crete (UoC)<\/strong>, and a detailed analysis of\u00a0aerosol impacts on radiative forcing and climate<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Prof. Prodromos Zanis<\/strong>, co-PI from the\u00a0Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0Dr. Georgios Papangelis (NOA)<\/strong>\u00a0presented the development of a\u00a0downscaling framework for EC-Earth climate model outputs<\/strong>, followed by a discussion session on\u00a0machine-learning applications developed during the REINFORCE project<\/strong>, presented by\u00a0Mr. Orfeas Karathanasopoulos (NOA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The session concluded with a focused discussion on the\u00a0project risks, key deliverables, achieved milestones, and dissemination and exploitation activities<\/strong>, with contributions from\u00a0the PIs of the host institute and the collaborating organizations<\/strong>. The event wrapped up with an open discussion for both in-person and remote participants, including\u00a0Dr. Spyros Vasilakos<\/strong>, President of the BoD of NOA, on\u00a0future research directions and collaboration opportunities<\/strong>, highlighting the scientific impact and long-term value of the REINFORCE project in advancing aerosol\u2013climate interactions and Earth system modeling.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
